What is Proposition 65?

California's Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires businesses to provide warnings to California consumers before knowingly exposing anyone to chemicals listed by the State of California as known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Which Products Are Affected?

This warning applies intentionally to our handcrafted rugs made from recycled sari silk, which may contain residual dyes or textile processing chemicals from the original fabric manufacturing process. Because our rugs are constructed utilizing pre-consumer recycled sari silk — fabric that was previously dyed and processed — we cannot fully verify the specific legacy chemical or dye compositions used in the original textile manufacturing phases.

Products that may be subject to this operational warning include:

• All hand-knotted recycled sari silk rug collections.
• Products explicitly described as "hand-dyed" or containing colored textile fibers.

Methods to Reduce Your Exposure

You can easily reduce localized exposure by executing these standard preventive measures:

• Airing out newly unboxed rugs outdoors or in a highly ventilated open area for 24–48 hours prior to room layout placement.
• Washing hands thoroughly after direct prolonged handling of rugs, especially before meals.
• Keeping textiles away from floor areas where young children crawl or play directly on the material surface for extended periods.
• Adhering closely to our specialized Rug Care instructions for routine cleaning and product maintenance.
